right in time for summer oslo presents us two promising talents from romania named noidoi. they fit perfectly into the exceptional talent round of oslo and let us hope on a hot summer. aprilli 9 on the a side is a classic piece with wonderful house chords, which kept the audience by his extraordinary sound. noidoi opens up on the b side with aprilli 6, a title with no less high quality. the sound is definite more electronic pronounced than on the a side. trebor, impulsive and at the same time groovie is ideally suited for the somewhat late hour and rounds the ep off with his deepen mood.

our favorite african producer mr raoul k is back to mule musiq. this new single is a first single cut from his new (debut?) album which coming in the late this year or beg of next year. raoul k recorded all instruments like african traditinal guitar cora in africa and he added his unique psychdelic touch. the result is a playful african deep house.

wavetest are a new collective from zurich, 4 young guys in their early 20s which have their roots in disco and house. two of them have already released a single on chicagos mathematics label under their late invitation project name. they are also a great live-act with bass, keys and drum machines and their dj kejeblos is one of the most promising hopes of zurichs new generation. he is a resident at zukunft and was discovered and supporte by our buddie lexx.
we are totally into their groove as we really like their open-minded approach and we honestly believe in them. their tunes impress by a really forward thinking attitude and can be played at any time during the night. this is a perfectsummertime single and we just had so much fun playing the tracks out. because to us this is exactly what we call b-boy house.

pablo mandelbrot claims to be from bar harbor, maine on the north-eastern coast of the u.s.a. when asked about his upbringing he mentions various occupations including sardine canner and quota negotiator as well as hinting at some dark years spent working in the aqua-culture industry. about his music he says little, summing up his productions with the cryptic declaration: >disco is a deep sea<. we are not entirely sure where or when the two tracks on this 12inch were recorded and the only information from mandelbrot himself is that he has sometimes collaborated with the late conny plankton (who also engineered these two tracks), a legendary figure of the maine/nova scotia electronic music scene. pablo also insists that both tracks are >under exclusive license from lob-starr records<, although we have never heard of this label and their representatives have yet to contact us. we hope you enjoy these two slices of hypnoboogie disco, smoked, cured and de-boned for your convenience.

in the world of factory presets, default settings and copy-paste ethics, there are few artists that actually care to make a difference. and -who told you that?-, 29th release on warsaw recognition label, is certainly a voice to be heard. the title track is another subtle narrative from label boss jacek sienkiewicz. eerie chord and a solid, damp beat from the start are underpinned by sherds of dialogue - snippets of words and laughter keep coming back in the mix, providing some sort of uneasy commentary towards todays minimal house formula. but at some point the voices disappear - and then the tracks gently goes somewhere outside the boundaries of todays club music, somewhere otherworldly. this shift, albeit amazingly subtle, is a leap towards music free of any defined context, far beyond dancefloor and definitely original. if this sneak peak into the possible futures of manmachine induced visions is too much to handle, there is still the b-side of this release. two tracks here - both clocking around mere 5 minutes - are prime exercises in compact, clever, tight and efficient club tools. uplifting -cobalt drive- is bound to to be quoted and reworked into many forms of a late-night burner. patefon, on the other hand, is a peak-time stormer with its stuttering chords and moody samples, supposedly picked from some vintage shellac discs

>vibrational studies (in echospace)< is an alternate version of album opener >in echospace< and revolves around a relentless cycle of washed-out analogue loops layered around submerged field recordings and electric currents that somehow propel the track while at the same time immersing it in one of the headiest mixes hitchell and modell have ever recorded. >symbolism in transition< finds modell deploying a deep and padded configuration with a sort of late night shuffle so beloved of move d, all squashed house vibes, sparkling melodic currents and bursts of barely- there white noise û its a gentle, beautiful thing.

here a private pressing of 200 copies with some exciting works of mr bottin who is for sure one of the most active producers in the new disco umwelt this year! one super sweet and sexy track called sage oil. disco just dont get much hotter then this. flip side had a track called hot lizard which is a rawer and more masculine piece as many of us might know from the typical italian police series and horror movie scores from the late 70s and early 80s. recommended!

a collection of rare and very sought-after underground british disco, funk and soul tracks avoiding the obvious hits that have been on a million cdÆs already. many of these tracks never went beyond a very small local release but have since become very collectable - buying this lot would set you back somewhere in the four figures.
back street brit funk is the latest compilation from dave lee aka joey negro released on the z records label. the double disc album features highly collectable tracks from the late 70s through to the mid-80s with sleeve notes from soul weekender veteran mark webster.

after a short hiatus, misericord is back for 2010 with more off-kilter missives for back-room massive. first up is the welcome return of mr al usher. his >gnanfou< ep christened the label back in the summer of 2007 and was rapturously received / licensed all over the place. al has been quiet of late, busy being a dad and doing a proper job, but prins thomas put his out of the loop gem >lullaby for robert< out again in 2009 to much acclaim. this new release >hilversum< is very much its follow-up: al at his most unashamedly gorgeous, re-contextualising an old deutsche neue welle melody and weaving it into a characteristically intricate and beautiful piece of post-balearic loveliness. for the flip we commissioned a remix from one of europes most exciting new producers, barcelonas john talabot.

von spar is an artist collective from germany consisting of sebastian blume, jan philipp janzen, phillip tielsch and christopher marquez. the cologne-berlin quartet serves up a veritable ear-worm as an amuse bouche prior to their third album >foreigner<, which will be released at the end of may 2010 on italic recordings. the four deliver a rousing anthem enriched with a krauty disco groove and soulful close-harmony vocals for all of those late-night culture-vultures, oddballs and mother-in-laws nightmares propping up the bars at the discotheques of this world.

simian mobile disco will be releasing a series of 12 inch singles, on a brand new imprint entitled >delicacies<, which will be accompanied by a club night – delicatessen, curated by smd themselves and happening at venues around the world. each track will take the name of an exotic, and often bizarre, delicacy from around the world. already on the menu are >aspic< and >nerve salad< which will be served up in late april at all good independent record stores. the first delicatessen set up shop at matter on 20th february and featured a gourmet line up including smds massive live show, green velvet, dj pierre, retrograde, boy 8-bit, joker, ralph lawson and mowgli. the next delicatessen will be at matter on the 23rd july - line up to be announced. smd have also secured a new york residency for 2010 with underground party fixed (dates to be announced shortly)

**** repress **** late nineties saw three releases of boo williams on titonton duvante run residual records. from these three eps we pulled the four best tracks, which make up this >residual ep<. four times raw, deep, melancholic, late night grooves at which boo is a master. essential house music!

the first teaser from the long awaited second album of phil mison (aka cantoma) comes in a true idjut boy haze. reminiscent of early u star at its best, their remix of >north shore< is one of the most locked-in grooves we have heard for some time. the vocal version sucks you into an almost trance like fashion and is purely made for the late night hours on a sweaty dancefloor. hearing this on a big system is truly a spiritual experience. the instrumental ties down an amazing second 12 inch for leng and gives us further excitement on the release of the second cantoma album. simply terrific.
